The project

Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society (NDMS) supports, advocates, educates, and provides resources for Nunavummiut with disabilities. Through their research, NDMS increases the awareness of all aspects of life for Nunavummiut with disabilities.

In 2023, NDMS approached us to create culturally sensitive infographics, data visualizations and illustrations that tell the story of Nunavummiut with disabilities. Michelle creatively directed Amy Ryu to illustrate Eeta, a persona of a young woman with a disability living in Nunavut. Through storytelling we depicted the challenging medical travel journey of Eeta, an experience that is very common to Nunavummiut with disabilities accessing healthcare within, and outside, their territory.

Our on-going relationship with NDMS fosters respect, inclusivity and diversity across their publications. Watch this space for more infographics, data visualizations and character illustrations coming in 2026.

A bird's-eye view of four report spreads featuring a dominant dark purple and white color palette. The design uses bold sans-serif typography, large data percentages (81%), and colorful character illustrations to tell a story.

Eeta’s Travel Journey

A deep purple spread with a "pathway" line connecting sections of text and white line icons. A large illustration shows a woman, Eeta, looking worried. Another shows her being carried up narrow airplane stairs.
Continuing the deep purple theme, this spread uses a white path to guide the reader through sections on hotels and hospitals. It features a colorful illustration of Eeta at a doctor's appointment and a quote about stressful travel.

“Working with Michelle has been such a pleasure! She immediately understood the tone and style that we were looking for, and she provided us with impactful visuals that will make our research findings sing.

I really appreciate the thoughtfulness and care that she brings to the process of creating visuals for sensitive topics. Her feedback and suggestions went above and beyond and really improved our storytelling.”
